Bon Ton Roulet 8 day bike ride, Fingerlakes, July 2022

8 days camping and 7 days biking 40-50 mi/day
Fingerlakes NY, July 23-30, 2022

This was my 8th Bon Ton ride, the first was in 2008. I always am with friends I had met during previous rides. We make plans each year to meet again the next year. We put up our tents near each other, watch out for each other on the road, and chat. These friends have been Candi Harper, Bob Lamb, Steve Breit, Janet Brown, Alice Ryen, and Marge Kelly, but not everyone can make it each year.

My new easy popup tent from England.

The Fingerlakes were formed by the retraction of glaciers, leaving lakes but high hills between them. A typical day is easy biking near the lakes and tough climbs between the lakes. My new Bianchi e-Bike made that part a lot more fun!

Watkins Gorge State Park in Watkins Glen was carved during just the last 12,000 years by a creek that ate through the soft shale.  Nine waterfalls were created, reachable by 824 stone steps. This photo is near the bottom of the chasm.

Steve Breit from Boston and I have done this ride together for years

The sun is going down. Bedtime at 9:30, up at 6, breakfast, pack, take tent down, and bags on transport van by 8 and on the road again.
